HMRC have now moved their focus on tax evaders to Scottish landlords.
The Taxman has set up a special taskforce to target those who have not declared any properties they let, on their tax returns. HMRC are working closely with the Land Registry office and taking an active interest in individuals who own several properties and have sold property in recent years, it is likely Edinburgh and Glasgow will be their first port of call.
The move also aims to raise and additional £7bn a year by 2014-15. HMRC has planned 12 taskforces in 2011-12, with more to follow in 2012-13. The most recent group being targeted is Electricians.
If you have any property or land you let out and have not declared it on your tax return, please contact our Tax Department on 0141 643 9200, as we may be able to help before HMRC come calling.
