Do your employees have the correct business motor insurance cover?

It has recently came to our attention that police are targeting employees who do not have the correct business motor insurance cover on their vehicles. If any employee uses their car for work purposes then their insurance policy is required to include business cover.

The more common social, domestic and commuting use does not cover any travel which is on behalf of the business which could include giving an employee a lift, visiting customers or visiting the bank etc.

If employees are found not to have the correct business motor insurance cover they can be charged with driving without insurance and should they be in an accident the insurance company may not pay out any proceeds.

We would recommend that should you have any employees who may be required to use their vehicle for any business purposes that they ensure they have the correct cover. In our experience it has been a fairly nominal cost to upgrade insurance policies to include business use.
